Blue is the colour.
Sunday 9th May 2010
Nothing illustrates the month of May more than a woodland carpeted with native Blue Bells. The native Blue Bell is smaller than the more chunky Spanish garden variety and with a more delicate perfume.Due to the particularly hard winter the tree canopy has been late to come into leaf, this has allowed more light onto the woodland floor perfect conditions for this years Blue Bells. We are very lucky on the Isle of Wight with many of our woodlands offering fantastic opportunities to view these beautiful flowers. The Island woods have many other flowers jockying for position including the delicate wood anemones and the wild garlic with its pungent aroma also if you?re lucky an to see orchids on the wood fringes. A number of these woodlands and copses are close to our routes so if you are visiting us in May you may be treated to a visual feast.
